Two American TV drama films were made soon after the events of Operation Entebbe: "Victory at Entebbe" (featuring Anthony Hopkins, Burt Lancaster, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Dreyfuss, Kirk Douglas and Linda Blair) and "Raid on Entebbe" (featuring Peter Finch, Charles Bronson and Yaphet Kotto). In addition, there was also an Israeli film about the events called "Operation Thunderbolt", which featured Klaus Kinski, Yehoram Gaon and Sybil Danning.

On June 27th 1976, a mixed group of German and Palestinian terrorists hijacked an Air France Airbus A300 which was travelling from Tel Aviv to Paris via Athens. The plane was diverted to Entebbe Airport in Uganda, after a refueling stop in Benghazi, Libya. Over the next few days, many of the hostages were released, but over 100 Israeli and Jewish passengers remained in the hands of the hijackers.

On July 4th, Israeli special forces launched a daring mission to rescue the hostages... (known as both "Operation Entebbe" and "Operation Thunderbolt").
